DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES
POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
PERMANENT CROWN / BRIDGE
Immediately After Placement
- Do not eat or drink for 1 hour after your crown or bridge has been cemented. This allows the dental cement to set completely.
- During the first 24 hours, avoid:
- hard and sticky foods (such as nuts, toffee, or chewing gum),
- biting directly on your new crown or bridge, as the teeth and surrounding tissues are still adapting.
What You May Experience
It is normal to experience:
- mild tooth sensitivity for a few days,
- a feeling that the restoration is “different” or unusual, which usually disappears after a short adaptation period.
If you notice:
- discomfort when biting,
- excessive sensitivity,
- or the feeling that the crown or bridge is too high,
please contact ODONTO to arrange a follow-up appointment. Minor adjustments can usually resolve these issues.
Oral Hygiene
Good oral hygiene is essential for the long-term success of your restoration.
We recommend:
- brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste,
- cleaning daily with dental floss,
- using an oral irrigator (water flosser), especially to clean underneath bridge pontics.
Habits to Avoid
To help prolong the life of your restoration, avoid:
- biting your fingernails,
- chewing pens or pencils,
- biting hard objects such as ice,
- grinding or clenching your teeth (bruxism), unless you wear a protective night guard if recommended.
WARRANTY FOR CERAMIC RESTORATIONS
(Crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and implant-supported restorations)
- 2-year warranty
- The warranty is valid provided that the support zones (teeth 16–26 and 36–46) are restored within 6 months after the final restoration is delivered.
- For patients with bruxism, the scope of the warranty is determined individually.
WARRANTY CONDITIONS
To maintain your warranty, you should:
- attend follow-up appointments with your treating dentist every 6–12 months, or as recommended,
- have professional dental cleaning every 6 months, or as advised,
- complete all recommended follow-up X-ray examinations.
TEMPORARY CROWN / BRIDGE
Temporary restorations are intended only for use while your permanent crown or bridge is being made, for the period specified by your dentist.
Please note:
- The colour of the temporary restoration may differ from the final restoration.
- Temporary restorations are not designed to provide the same strength, fit, or long-term seal as permanent restorations.
- You may experience temporary sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods. This usually resolves once the permanent restoration is fitted.
- Wearing your temporary crown or bridge is essential. Without it, neighbouring or opposing teeth may move, preventing your permanent restoration from fitting properly.
Oral Hygiene
- Brush gently around the temporary crown or bridge.
- Floss carefully as instructed by your dentist to avoid dislodging the temporary restoration.
Eating and Drinking
- Do not eat or drink for 1 hour after the temporary restoration has been placed.
- Avoid hard foods (such as nuts) and sticky foods (such as chewing gum, caramel, or chewy sweets), as they may loosen or dislodge the temporary crown or bridge.
If the Temporary Restoration Comes Off
If your temporary crown or bridge becomes loose, falls off, or breaks, please contact ODONTO as soon as possible.
If possible, bring all pieces of the restoration to your appointment. Your dentist may be able to re-cement it or, if necessary, make a new temporary restoration.
Temporary crowns and bridges are not covered by a warranty.
