PERIODONTAL SURGERY

POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

• Have a professional dental cleaning performed 1–7 days before the procedure.
• Attend a dental examination/check-up before treatment.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Cold Compresses

• During the first 24 hours, apply cold compresses to the outside of your face for 10–15 minutes at a time, with short breaks between applications.

Medications

• Take all prescribed medications exactly as instructed by your dentist.

Mouth Rinse

• Use a chlorhexidine mouthwash 3 times a day for 7–10 days, as directed.
• Do not rinse your mouth vigorously during the first few hours after the procedure.

Diet

• For the first 10 days, eat soft, cool or lukewarm foods.
• Avoid chewing on the treated side.

Rest

• On the day of the procedure, avoid strenuous physical activity and heavy lifting.

WHAT TO AVOID

• Do not brush the treated area for the first week. After 7 days, you may gently clean the area using an extra-soft surgical toothbrush (such as Curaprox Surgical Mega Soft).
• Do not eat until the local anaesthetic has completely worn off (approximately 2 hours).
• Do not smoke or drink alcohol for 7 days after the procedure.
• Do not suck on or touch the surgical site with your tongue or fingers.
• Avoid hot drinks and hard or crunchy foods during the first few days after surgery.
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and swimming pools during the first week after the procedure.

PLEASE CONTACT ODONTO IF

• you experience severe or increasing pain that is not relieved by pain medication,
• you develop heavy bleeding or significant swelling,
• you develop a fever, an allergic reaction to medication, or any other concerning symptoms.

MEDICATIONS

Pain Relief

• Ibuprofen 400 mg – Take 1 tablet every 8 hours for the first 2 days, then as needed.
• Nimesil 100 mg – Take 1 sachet every 12 hours as needed until the pain subsides.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS

• A follow-up appointment after 7 days is mandatory.
• If stitches have been placed, they are usually removed 14 days after the procedure.
• Continue attending routine dental check-ups every 6 months, together with professional dental cleaning, as recommended.
