POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

AFTER RECEIVING YOUR DENTURES

Soreness and Pressure Areas

It is normal to experience some discomfort or sore spots while you are getting used to your new dentures.

• Wear your dentures for as long as possible after they are fitted.
• If they begin to cause significant discomfort, remove them and allow your gums to rest.
• If the soreness persists, wear the dentures for 1–2 hours before your adjustment appointment so your dentist can easily identify the areas that require correction.

Gag Reflex

Some patients experience a gag reflex when wearing new dentures.

To help reduce this:

• rinse your mouth and throat with cold water before inserting the dentures,
• start by eating soft foods,
• sucking a mint may also help.

If the gag reflex continues, please contact your dentist. The denture may require adjustment.

Do Not Adjust Your Dentures Yourself

Never attempt to trim, bend or adjust your dentures at home. All adjustments should be carried out by your dentist during follow-up appointments.

DENTURE CARE

Acrylic Dentures

• Remove your dentures every night.
• Store them dry in their denture case (do not keep them in water), as recommended by your dentist, to help reduce the risk of bacterial and fungal growth.
• Rinse the dentures with water after every meal.
• Clean them every morning and evening using a denture brush with liquid soap or mild dishwashing liquid.
• Do not use toothpaste, as it can scratch and damage the acrylic surface.

Metal Partial Dentures (Cast Dentures)

• These dentures should not be removed overnight, unless your dentist advises otherwise.
• Use a toothbrush reserved only for cleaning the denture.
• Clean the acrylic parts with soap and water.
• Clean the metal framework with water only.
• Once a week, soak the denture in a denture-cleaning solution (such as Corega or Protefix) for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.

Poor denture hygiene may lead to bad breath, inflammation of the oral tissues, sore spots, and discomfort.

Implant-Supported Overdentures

• Remove and clean the denture after every meal using a denture brush and mild soap or a denture-cleaning product.
• After removing the denture, carefully clean your gums, tongue, implants, attachments, or retained tooth roots supporting the denture using a soft toothbrush.
• Additional cleaning aids such as an oral irrigator (water flosser) and implant-specific dental floss are recommended.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS

• Attend follow-up examinations every 6 months so your dentist can assess your dentures, examine the oral tissues, and professionally clean the denture if needed.
• In most cases, dentures should be replaced approximately every 5 years, depending on wear and changes in your mouth.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE STABILITY OF AN ACRYLIC DENTURE

To improve denture retention:

• practise creating suction with the upper denture against the roof of your mouth,
• train your tongue and cheek muscles to help stabilise the lower denture,
• avoid biting directly into food with the front teeth of the denture, as this may cause it to lift at the back,
• consider dental implants, which can significantly improve denture stability, especially in cases of advanced bone loss.

IF YOUR DENTURE IS DAMAGED

• Collect all broken pieces and bring them to your dentist.
• Do not attempt to glue the denture or bend the clasps yourself.

WARRANTY

Your denture is covered by a 12-month warranty, which includes:

• material defects,
• repair of denture components (such as locator attachments) resulting from normal wear during the first 12 months,
• up to three adjustment appointments during the adaptation period (within 3 months after delivery).

WARRANTY CONDITIONS

To maintain your warranty, you must:

• attend follow-up appointments every 6 months, including X-rays if recommended,
• wear and care for your denture according to your dentist’s instructions,
• contact ODONTO promptly if you experience pain, discomfort, or damage to the denture,
• avoid biting hard objects or foods that could damage the denture or its attachments.

THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

The warranty does not cover:

• damage caused by improper use of the denture (for example, chewing hard or sticky foods),
• anatomical changes, such as natural bone resorption or changes in the gums, that require denture adjustment after the adaptation period,
• repairs or replacement resulting from failure to follow the recommended hygiene instructions,
• replacement of the denture due to normal wear and tear after the 12-month warranty period.
