RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PATIENTS WITH DENTURES
AFTER DENTURE PLACEMENT
- Discomfort or pain: After receiving dentures, wear them as long as possible. Remove them only when they start to cause discomfort and give your gums a rest. If the pain is constant, wear the dentures 1-2 hours before the adjustment appointment and visit your dentist with them.
- Gag reflex: If you experience a gag reflex when putting on dentures, rinse your mouth and throat with cold water before putting them on. Eating soft foods and sucking on a mint candy initially can also help. If the reflex persists, get the denture adjusted at ODONTO Clinic.
- Denture adjustments: Do not file the dentures or teeth on the denture yourself. Adjustments should be made by a dentist at ODONTO Clinic during free adjustment appointments.
HYGIENE
- Acrylic dentures should be removed at night and stored in a dry box without water, as water can promote bacterial and fungal infections.
- Rinse the denture with water after every meal.
- Clean the denture with a brush, soap, and water (not toothpaste, as it damages acrylic) in the morning and evening.
- Metal dentures should not be removed at night. Clean the acrylic part with a brush and soap water and the metal part with a brush and water only.
- Once a week, dissolve a special denture tablet (e.g., Corega, Prokudent, Protefix, etc.) in a glass of water, soak the denture for 30 minutes, and then rinse with water.
- Poor oral hygiene can lead to bad breath, oral inflammation, sores, and pain.
CONTROL
- Control visits are necessary at least once every 6 months for denture cleaning.
- New dentures should be made every 7 years.
HOW TO INCREASE DENTURE STABILITY
- Practice sucking the upper denture to the palate.
- Train the tongue and cheeks to keep the lower denture in place.
- Avoid biting with the front teeth of the denture, as it can cause the back part to dislodge.
- Consider implants for additional support in unfavourable conditions.
IF THE DENTURE IS DAMAGED
- Collect the pieces and bring them to your dentist – do not try to glue them yourself.
- Do not bend clasps yourself.
